CULTIVATING YOUR RETIREMENT
Finding Balance in Rocky Times
… In retirement, when we become unmoored from our normal structures and we don’t have to live according to rigorous schedules, mindful living can help reacquaint us with the joys that went unrecognized for so many decades.
–Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, From Age-ing to Sage-ing
Whether you’ve been retired for two months or 20 years, this stage of life is ever-changing. The past year’s coronavirus pandemic may have upended your plans –even accelerated your retirement. Much can feel beyond our control.
Join with others to create a supportive community as you use this time to cultivate a retirement life with balance and meaning. In this workshop series you will learn some essentials of successful transitions and use the multiple meanings of the Hebrew word shalom -- hello, goodbye, peace and wholeness – as a tool for reflection and action.
This highly participatory experience will invite you to:
- Explore your internal images of “retirement”;
- Understand the process of transition as a series of endings, unknowns and beginnings;
- Consider ongoing shifts in identity, purpose and life balance;
- Draw from the practices of “spiritual eldering” including gratitude and forgiveness;
- Imagine your “ideal” retiree, and
- Identify steps you can take to cultivate a retirement – and legacy – with purpose and meaning.
Cultivating Your Retirement will be taught by Audrey Seidman in a five-part program, offered on Zoom. Audrey Seidman is a Vatika/Sage-ing® Mentor, facilitating workshops and passing along practices and wisdom to support positive conscious aging. She is also a spiritual director, and an Outreach Chaplain for the Jewish Federation of NENY. Audrey retired in 2015 from careers in public relations and organization development.
