BOOK OF LIFE
Preparing for the Days of Awe
Return to Me
and I will return to you!
Says the G!d of Hosts.
Have you ever felt, “I could write a book!” when revisiting parts of your life? From Rosh Hashanah to Yom Kippur, the ten days of the High Holidays invite--even demand--that we dive deeply into the past year and become better people from our honest self-examination. The holiday offers opportunity for forgiveness, reconciliation, and entering new skin: we become newborns to begin again. The High Holidays awaken us to temporality, show the way to soul repair, console, and infuse us with hope.
While you may have been practicing the path of seasonal introspection before, you may not have put it in writing: it intensifies the experience. Please join us to fill a blank book with your words and collage images to reveal the dynamic process of memory and intention.
Imagine the spine reading 5781, the year in the Jewish calendar, a year unlike any of us expected to be living in 2020. Judaism’s celebration of the human being’s ability to look within, feel regret, and set upon a new path, is essential always, most especially in our current time of challenges and opportunities. We’ve been around a long time and the process has gotten us through everything so far. Let’s write it down for future generations!
Come, come whoever you are
Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving
It doesn’t matter
Ours is not a caravan of despair
Come, come even if you have broken your vows a thousand times
come - come yet again, come.
